As far as social media goes, Facebook has become a household name and is responsible for so many people that use social media. When you have as many active users as Facebook has (2.23 billion according to Statista as of 2018), it should be every marketing professional’s favorite tool. Joshi and Suman (2017) decided to make a case of social media marketing through Facebook for those who are still debating between traditional methods of marketing and social media marketing. The objective of their study was to understand how Facebook impacts people’s views on brands and how they impact purchasing behavior. They found that Facebook is one of often the first point of contact when people are seeking new information about a brand and/or it’s related products. Couple that with a lack of boundaries when it comes to virtual communication, word of mouth marketing has great power on social media sites like Facebook.
What does this mean for marketers?
The most glaringly obvious piece of advice to marketers is to create a Facebook page if you don’t have one. Taking it one step further, a few tips to keep in mind:
Ask customers to write reviews about your company
Offer promotions on Facebook to gain new customers to try your product
Address any customer complaints that you receive
Stay consistent with posting and interacting on Facebook
Update information on your Facebook page regularly
